Clev due to confirm comeback this week

This week, Cefn Fforest’s Nathan Cleverly (28-2, 14KO) will confirm his rescheduled return to the light-heavyweight division. The 28-year-old will appear on 30 May at London’s 02 Arena as part of Matchroom Sport’s stacked ‘Rule Britannia’ show, which will be broadcast on Sky Sports Box Office. It will be Cleverly’s first fight since losing his rematch with bitter rival Tony Bellew (23-2-1, 14KO) via Split Decision in November. That loss ended Cleverly’s ambitious foray in to the cruiserweight division and he returns to light-heavyweight where he won British, Commonwealth, European and WBO world titles. It’s common knowledge that Cleverly is targeting an eventual Autumn showdown with Juergen Braehmer (46-2, 34KO), who currently holds the WBA Regular title in the 175lb weight category and has defended it five times, including a fifth round stoppage of Swansea’s Enzo Maccarinelli in April 2014. The pair have history as Cleverly was due to challenge Braehmer in 2011 for the German’s WBO title but the champion withdrew on short notice on two seperate occasions. The second time prompted to WBO to strip the southpaw of his belt and elevate Cleverly from interim status to the full version. On the same show in May, Barry’s Lee Selby (20-1, 8KO) challenges unbeaten Russian Evgeny Gradovich (19-0-1, 9KO) for the IBF world featherweight title and Blackwood’s Craig Evans (14-0, 3KO), Cleverly’s former amateur gym-mate at Fleur De Lys Boxing Club, contests the vacant British title with fellow unbeaten lightweight Scott Cardle (17-0, 4KO). Trowbridge’s Nick Blackwell (16-3-1, 6KO), who has recently joined Gary Lockett’s stable of fighters in Cardiff, is also on the undercard. The 24-year-old middleweight will be hoping it’s a case of third time’s a charm as he will fight London’s John Ryder (20-1, 12KO) for the vacant British title, having previously challenged world class contenders Martin Murray and Billy Joe Saunders for the Lord Lonsdale belt. Sky Sports Box Office will show ‘Rule Britannia’ exclusively live this Saturday. Buy now at www.skysports.com/brookgavin
