Nathan Cleverly (27-1, 13KO) and Tony Bellew (21-2-1, 13KO) will continue on their ‘Collision Course’ by co-headlining Liverpool’s Echo Arena on July 12th as their build up to their Autumn rematch. In his last appearance at the venue almost three years ago, Cleverly successfully defended his WBO world light-heavyweight title with a Majority Decision points win over Bellew to hand the Scouser his first professional defeat. Both boxers have suffered defeats since that sell-out night and moved up to cruiserweight but the bad blood has remained and it continues to be one of the most hostile rivalries in recent memory. Despite the period of recent transition, they have come full circle and are just one step away from a rematch following Bellew’s 12th round stoppage of Valery Brudov in March and Cleverly’s second round stoppage of Sean Corbin in May. The show will be televised on Sky Sports and Matchroom Sport’s Managing Director Eddie Hearn will announce opponents for Cleverly and Bellew at a press conference in Liverpool on Tuesday. Hearn said, “July 12 promises to be a great night in Liverpool – as we sign off for the summer with a bang. There’s real animosity between Tony and Nathan as they aim to overcome one final hurdle before they meet in October.” Olympic gold medallist Anthony Joshua MBE, WBC Silver champion Stephen Smith, WBC International champion Callum Smith, former Commonwealth champion Rocky Fielding and Prizefighter champion Chris Jenkins will all appear on the show.
