Forster out-pointed by Winters in Bristol

Caerphilly’s Robbie Forster (0-2) suffered the second defeat of his career, losing out to debutant Duane Winters (1-0) on the undercard of Sanigar Events’ ‘The Mexican’ show at the City Academy in Bristol. Winters, owning about a three inch height advantage, opted to circle Forster in the opener and tie the visitor up when he closed down the distance. Forster, acknowledging that he wouldn’t win a battle of the jabs, attempted to stalk Winters and ambush him when he approached the corners. Referee Howard Foster first interrupted the action in the second round as Forster’s right hand displaced his opponent’s mouthpiece. As the fight progressed, Winters attempted to edge forward and push Forster back, who was forced to hold his feet, ambitiously attempting to catch and counter. As the Welshman came out for the third round, swelling over his right eye was apparent. Winters’ own face was soon showing matching marks as an accidental head clash opened a cut over his left eyebrow. Forster was later given a warning for being reckless with his head, which drew boos from the 1,000 strong crowd. The fourth round followed a similar pattern to the three previous with Winters always remaining a step ahead of a willing but frustrated Forster. The show started an hour late as the required anaesthetist was delayed travelling to the show from London but he wasn’t needed in the first fight of the night as Winters won the contest on points, via the referee 40-36 scorecard in favour of the avid Bristol Rovers fan.
