Hearn: Huck to be ringside for Cleverly-Bellew II

Long reigning world champion Marco Huck will be ringside when Cefn Fforest’s Nathan Cleverly (28-1, 14KO) fights Tony Bellew (22-2-1, 14KO) on Saturday.

The winner of the grudge match should be in pole position to challenge for world title and WBO belt-holder Huck seems happy to entertain a defence against Cleverly or Bellew.

Huck is near to breaking the record for the most number of title defences by a cruiserweight world champion, having beaten challengers on 13 occasions to equal Johnny Nelson’s current record. The German world champion has expressed his interest to move up to heavyweight but requires one more defence at 200lbs to make history.

Despite being relatively new to the weight category, both Cleverly and Bellew are two of the most marketable names on the scene and the promoter of Saturday’s show, Matchroom Sport’s Eddie Hearn, believes that it’s the biggest fight in the cruiserweight division.

Hearn said, “Tell me a bigger fight [in the cruiserweight division]? Marco Huck and [Yoan Pablo] Hernandez [IBF champion]? Who is that a bigger fight to? Just because German TV pay a lot of money out, where’s the hype for that? Where’s the interest, rivalry and numbers? I could have done 30,000 [people in attendance] for this card.

“Huck’s coming over because he wants to fight the winner. I’ve always said, I feel like the winner and loser will fight for a world title, the loser may have an eight or ten [round fight] in the meantime but they are two of the biggest names in the division.

“After this event and promotion, they’re definitely the biggest names in the division. Everyone’s going to want to fight Nathan or Tony and that’s why Huck is flying over here.”

#CleverlyBellew2 will take place at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on Saturday 22nd November, live on Sky Sports Box Office (Channel 731) and Sky Sports HD Box Office (Channel 752). The event broadcast will start at 6:00pm and there are repeat viewings on Sunday 23rd November at 9:00am and 4:00pm. Up until Midnight on Friday 21st November, the event is priced at £16.95/€21.95 across all forms of booking.
