Jenkins injured and off Merthyr show

Swansea’s Chris Jenkins (15-0, 7KO) has been forced to withdraw from Friday’s ‘Repeat Or Revenge’ show. Last week, the light-welterweight suffered a torn tricep and he’s been unable to recover in time for Sanigar Events’ June 11th show. The 25-year-old was due to meet Gyula Vajda (16-6, 11KO) at the Merthyr Leisure Centre in a ten round contest but the Hungarian is now due to contest for his national title against Adam Mate on Friday. Jenkins, who trains under Ronnie Morris and Jimmy Bloomfield at Cwmgors Boxing Club, took to Facebook to tell his fans the news. He said, “My fight (on) Friday is now off due to (an) injury I have sustained in camp last week. Absolutely gutted, nine weeks and now I’m out. So sorry everyone, got to rest now. (I) hope to be back in action September/October.” Despite the disappointment, Jenkins is still in the running for a British title shot in the next few months. In February, Jenkins was nominated to box Commonwealth champion Willie Limmond in a Final Eliminator for champion Curtis Woodhouse. However, the Welshman stood aside to allow the British-Commonwealth unification to happen, with Limmond beating Woodhouse via Majority Decision. Then, two weeks ago, Jenkins was nominated to box in an Eliminator again by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC), this time against former Team GB Olympic captain Liverpool’s Tom Stalker. Purse bids are due on Wednesday.

£30 and £50 tickets for ‘Repeat Or Revenge’ on July 11th at the Merthyr Leisure Centre are available from Sanigar Events and Bristol Boxing Club on 01179496699.
