Kennedy-Camacho and Borg-Ware rematches made

The New Year has got underway with two of the most anticipated rematches in Welsh boxing being agreed and announced. The double header will be headlined by cruiserweights Craig ‘The Kid’ Kennedy (10-0, 5KO) and Wadi ‘Machoman’ Camacho (12-4, 8KO) who face each other over ten rounds following their explosive meeting in October. The Chief Support comes courtesy of middleweights Frankie Borg (9-3, 3KO) and Chris Ware (5-1, 2KO) who meet in a Welsh Area championship contest following their non-title four round fight in November. The show, named ‘Unfinished Business’, will be promoted by Sanigar Events and held at the Newport Centre on 13 March, with Eurosport (Sky Ch. 410) televising the action. The first fight between Cardiff’s Kennedy and Camacho, both aged 29-years-old, caused controversy that spread across the wider British boxing scene when the Londoner was disqualified by referee Martin Williams for biting in the second round. Camacho, with blood trickling from his eyes and nose at the Rhydycar Leisure Centre, protested straight away but he was later fined following a British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) hearing. The premature ending ruined what was supposed to be Kennedy’s coming out fight as he stepped up in class against a former Prizefighter champion. The event marked the continuation of an unlucky streak for Kennedy that had previously seen three Welsh Area title fights fall through. The non-title fight between Borg and Ware at the City Academy in Bristol was one of the best four rounders seen in Welsh boxing. The bout provided a mini-upset as Ware dropped the Welsh Area champion twice to win the Swansea-Cardiff derby on points. Before their rematch, both boxers have fights in the meantime. Ware fights in his first six rounder on 31 January in Trowbridge, while Borg faces the world rated Eamonn O’Kane on 13 February in Swindon. BoxingWales understands that part-Welshman Ben ‘Jack The Lad’ Davies (6-2-1, 3KO), who is based in Barnsley and managed by Carl Greaves, is targeting a challenge to the winner of Borg-Ware II. Super-middleweight talent Morgan ‘Sexual Chocolate’ Jones (1-0) is the first boxer to be confirmed for the undercard of ‘Unfinished Business’. Tickets start from £30 and are available by calling Sanigar Events on 0117 949 6699.
