Kennedy-Fry rescheduled and to be broadcast on Matchroom’s Fight Pass

The agreed fight between Cardiff’s Craig ‘The Kid’ Kennedy (11-0, 6KO) and Courtney Fry (19-6, 6KO) has been delayed by six days. The cruiserweights were due to meet at the Newport Centre on Saturday 13 June but will now lock horns at the same venue on Friday 19 June. Sanigar Events, who are promoting the ‘Unleash The Dragon’ show, have been forced to reschedule the show because Bristol bantamweight Lee Haskins, who is managed by Jamie and Chris Sanigar, has secured a shot at the IBF Interim world title against Japan’s Ryosuke Iwasa. The problem came when the only date that terrestrial broadcaster Channel 5 could televise Haskins’ dream shot clashed with the original date for Kennedy’s fight with Fry. The show featuring Haskins will be co-promoted with Mick Hennessey on Saturday 13 June. It has also emerged that Kennedy’s ten round British title eliminator with Fry, a former Olympic and Commonwealth Games representative for Team GB and England, will be broadcast on Matchroom Sport’s internet streaming service, Fight Pass. Jamie Sanigar said: “Once again, we have got a fantastic card. Kennedy is a real rising star and has a huge following. The other fights are real 50/50’s and there is always a lot of pride on the line with the Welsh title. “We will hopefully have a new Welsh world champion by then if Lee Selby does what we know he can on May 30th. That being the case, Welsh boxing will be at it’s best since Joe Calzaghe was undefeated champion back in 2008.” Fight Pass is an exclusive members area of Matchroom Sport’s website that broadcasts up to ten live shows a year and offers a priority booking service at a cost of £29.95 a year. The undercard for ‘Unleash The Dragon’ will include Barrie Jones (21-10, 8KO), who makes the first defence of his second reign as Welsh area light-middleweight title against Swansea’s James Lilley (7-5, 2KO). A trio of fighters from St Joseph’s Boxing Club in Newport will appear on the show, including; reigning Welsh and Celtic super-bantamweight champion Robbie Turley (14-5, 3KO), former British champion Gary Buckland (29-6, 9KO) and former Welsh Area champion Frankie Borg (9-4, 3KO). Newport’s former Welsh Area light-middleweight title holder Jerome Samuels will also return to the ring and drop back down to welterweight. Also appearing will be former standout amateurs and novice professionals Morgan Jones (2-0, 1KO), Nathan Thorley (1-0, 1KO), Kyle Jones (2-0) and Richie Canning (1-0). Newport’s welterweight Adam Goldsmith (3-0-1) and Aberdare’s heavyweight Dorian Darch (8-4, 1KO) are also scheduled to appear.
