LISTEN: Jay Harris celebrates Commonwealth achievement
Swansea’s Jay Harris (10-0, 6KO) has not had it easy. The energetic Jack earned just £150 on his debut and the faith of many, even the most patient, would have been tested in those tough times.
Still, Harris stuck with it and listened to the advice of his team. Their powers of pusuation convinced Andy Ayling, part of Frank’s Warren’s team, to give the Welshman a chance. Flyweights usually have to fight harder for equal recognition with their peers north of eight stone and Harris has since been impressing in the shadows.
Harris’ chance to make his mark came at London’s iconic York Hall on Friday and the 26-year-old took advantage, overcoming Cameroon’s Commonwealth champion Thomas Essomba with a well-fought Unanimois Decision, live on BoxNation and BT Sport.
As the new champion relaxed in the changing rooms and celebrated, BoxingWales.com caught up with him.
