MACCARINELLI-MCKENZIE CONFIRMED, WARREN WANTS ENZO RETIREMENT

Today, Frank Warren Promotions confirmed that Swansea’s former WBO world champion Enzo Maccarinelli will challenge the big hitting Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion Ovill McKenzie – as exclusively revealed by BoxingWales.com two days ago. Warren also stated his wish for Maccarinelli to retire but he doesn’t want to stop promoting him in case other promoters take advantage of the 32-year-olds profile. When asked if he has any qualms of fears about the fight, Warren commented, “I want him to retire. I’ve been saying that for a long time. Enzo is a friend of mine.” “I’d prefer him not to fight but he’s a fighting man and if he’s going to fight then I’d much rather that I’m looking after him, rather than he goes elsewhere with a promoter that gives him fights that he may not need at this point of his career… But he wants to fight and that’s where we are but I’d prefer him to retire, of course I would.” Maccarinelli challenges McKenzie on the undercard of Cleverly-Uzelkov on October 27th at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff. The show will be televised live and exclusive on BoxNation, (Sky Ch. 437, Virgin Ch. 546).
