This Friday, Sanigar Events present ‘Welsh Pride’ headlined by Frankie Borg (8-2, 3KO) who defends his title against hometown hero Kerry Hope (20-6, 1KO) at the Merthyr Leisure Centre. The undercard includes WBC International light-welterweight champion Chris Jenkins (13-0, 5KO), Celtic and Welsh super-bantamweight champion Robbie Turley (11-4, 2KO), Lloyd Davies (1-0, 1KO), Lewis Patterson (3-2, 1KO) and Adam Goldsmith (1-0-1). Tickets for ‘Welsh Pride’ are priced at £30 for unreserved seating and £60 for ringside seating. To buy tickets, contact Sanigar Events at the Bristol Boxing Gym base on +44(0)1179496699. The show will be broadcast live on Eurosport (Sky Ch. 410). Welshpool’s Warren Sinden (2-0-1) will have his fourth professional fight against Norfolk’s Duane Green (1-6-2) on Saturday at the Tower Ballroom in Birmingham. The show is promoted by PJ Rowson and there are over 100 fans making the 90 minute journey to watch Sinden, who is known locally as ‘Big Rig’. Newport’s middleweight Jamie Weetch (2-1, 1KO) will contest the vacant West Australian State title against Renato Oliveira (5-0, 1KO) at the Kingsway Indoor Stadium in Madeley on Saturday. The Welshman won a national title as an amateur while representing Cwmcarn Amateur Boxing Club and he moved to Australia in 2012. Weetch turned professional a year ago but his VISA runs out in October and he must win a title to be allowed to stay in the country. The best of Welsh amateur boxing will be on show at the Welsh Championships Semi Finals at the Rhondda Fach Sports Centre (CF43 3HR) in Tylorstown on Saturday. Boxing will begin at 1PM, tickets are £10 and will be available on the door. An official announcement from Matchroom Sport is imminent regarding a return to Cardiff following the success of their ‘Reloaded’ show in February. The proposed date is May 17th and it’s rumoured that British and European champion Lee Selby (18-1, 7KO) will be fighting in a world title eliminator and Gary Buckland (28-3, 9KO) will rematch Gavin Rees (37-4-1, 18KO) in a repeat of their classic encounter earlier this year. Dale Evans (8-1-1, 3KO), Chris Jenkins (13-0, 5KO) and Tobias Webb (14-1-1, 2KO) are also expected to feature. This week, Coldwell Boxing announced their show ‘The Return’ at the Deeside Leisure Centre in Queensferry on May 24th and the returning Tom Doran (10-0, 3KO) will headline the show. Doran hasn’t fought since a controversial first round victory over Max Maxwell in 2011 and he will make his comeback at super-middleweight, two weight divisions above his previous fighting category. On the same show, Flintshire’s former super-heavyweight ABA champion Andy Jones (2-0) will make his third professional appearance and Wrexham’s light-welterweight Kerry Evans (1-0) will fight for the second time. It will be the first professional boxing show in North Wales for three years.
