BoxingWales have learned that Newbridge’s Gavin Rees has been forced to withdraw from his November 2nd bout with Tommy Coyle following the re-occurrence of an elbow injury. The pair were due to meet in a non-title fight on a Matchroom Sports show at the Hull Arena but Rees’ injury will keep him out until the new year. 33-year-old Rees first suffered the injury while training for his WBC world lightweight title challenge to Adrien Broner in February, then he re-injured it during his points loss to Anthony Crolla in June and it required surgery over the summer. The crossroads clash with Coyle was one of Rees’ most important as he planned to reach world, European and British title level again. An official announcement is expected later today.
