Results round-up: Griffiths, Lovell, McGoldrick and Pryce

On Wednesday, Nantymoel’s Danni Griffiths (6-1) out-pointed Poland’s Kamil Sokolowski (1-2) on a dinner show promoted by Robert Waterman in London. The 19 year old Welshman stepped up to the six round mark for the first time and he didn’t drop a round against Sokolowski who owned a natural size advantage, having competed as high as heavyweight. On Friday, Connah’s Quay’s Joe Lovell (3-2-1) earned a six-round draw against Ryan Fields (5-2-1, 2KO) at the Ice Arena in Sheffield. The 22 year old welterweight appeared in the away corner but he was undeterred and ploughed forward to earn a 57-57 draw on referee John Latham’s scorecard. Meanwhile in Bulgaria, Newport’s Sean McGoldrick annexed a bronze medal at the Strandja Cup amateur tournament. The bantamweight was unable to repeat his gold medal feet of 2014 but he defeated representatives from Moldova and Russia on his way to the semi-finals, before defeat to a Kazakhstan boxer. Last night in Preston, Newbridge’s Bradley ‘Sugar Sweet’ Pryce (35-20, 19KO) suffered the 20th defeat of his career. The 33 year old was beaten by the undefeated Rick Skelton (13-0, 1KO), with referee Mark Lyson scoring the contest 98-92. Pryce, who has recently opened up his own amateur boxing club, has now won two of his last 12 outings and the light-middleweight has been without a trainer since Jamie Arthur handed in his professional license.
