ROBINSON TO PROMOTE FIRST PRO SHOW

Former world champion, Steve ‘The Cinderella Man’ Robinson, will promote his first professional boxing show on March 8th. The event will take place on March 8th in the capital’s Cardiff City House of Sport and Robinson is planning to take his boxers to the major title success that he enjoyed in his career. Robinson won the Welsh featherweight title in 1991 with a points win over Peter Harris and he’ll promote at least two Welsh title fights on his first show as a promoter. The headline bout will be Craig Kennedy (7-0, 5KO) in a rescheduled Welsh title challenge at cruiserweight. With seven wins in the 10 months Kennedy has been a professional, Robinson is keen for his man to step up in levels in 2014 and he meets Cefn Hengoed’s tough Hari Miles (9-9, 2KO). Newport’s Jerome Samuels (4-5, 1KO) will rematch Blackwood’s Dai Jones (4-3-1) in a ten rounder for the Welsh welterweight title. They first met in September in a six rounder which Samuels won by a single point. In support will be two separate six rounders featuring Steve’s eldest son, Francis Luke Robinson (5-1) and Peter Ashton (2-1) who represented Wales in the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Last time out, Robinson junior came back from a loss and 18 month break from boxing to produce his best performance as a professional with a dominant four round points win over Swansea’s durable Matthew Ashmole. It took Ashton a round to get going when he last fought but he eventually switched on and oozed class, showing the skills that earned him stellar amateur success as he beat a game Tom Price on points over four rounds. Since retiring in 2002 from a career that included WBO world and European title wins, Robinson has set up his own boxing gym which he runs in Cardiff Bay in the south of the city and he plans to host professional shows every eight weeks. The venue can host approximately 1,000 fans and tickets will be priced from £30 upwards.
