Gary Lockett has told BoxingWales that there are talks in place for a rematch between his boxer Enzo Maccarinelli (38-7, 30KO) and WBA world light-heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (43-2, 32KO). Swansea’s former WBO world cruiserweight champion attempted to be Wales’ first official two weight world champion earlier this month but a horror eye injury in round one resulted in an eventual fifth round retirement. Maccarinelli’s eye injury was caused by an accidental head clash and Braehmer was also cut in the incident. Despite the injury, Maccarinelli fought gallantly until pulled out by his corner and the decision to save him for another day looks to have been a wise one if a rematch can be made. The bout, promoted by Sauerland Promotions in Germany, attracted over three million television viewers which will have pleased television executives and the promoters. The proposed time for a rematch is rumoured to be in July but nothing has currently been confirmed. Scroll down to watch the full interview with Gary Lockett:
