Welsh boxing will be well represented at Sport RCT’s Community Sports Awards 2014 with entrants in two categories. Ieuan Farrer of Pontypridd Boxing Club and Paul Thomas of ANA Boxing Club have been nominated in the Young Sports Personality and Volunteer of the Year categories, respectively. 13-year-old Farrer attends Hawthorn High where he has dabbled in football and rugby but he’s excelled in boxing, winning Welsh and British schoolboy titles. Farrer, who has been boxing for three years, has represented Wales at international level and is showing all the promise that he’ll continue to progress. Thomas has spent many hours and days ensuring that ANA Boxing Club in Mountain Ash is open five nights a week and that the boxers, of all abilities, receive all the support they need. Along with club coach Anthony Trow, Thomas organizes at least two home shows a year and his dedication has helped boxers progress to the Welsh national squad. Sport RCT is a part of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Leisure Services Team and encourages more people from the area to enjoy a healthier and more active lifestyle. For more information, visit:
