WEBB SURVIVES SCARE IN SWANSEA

By Ciaran Gibbons: The current Welsh super-middleweight champion Tobias Webb (13-1-1, 2KO) from Swansea won as expected against Darren McKenna (2-10-1, 2KO) from Surrey in a return contest but it was a lot tougher contest than expected. In Paul Boyce Promotions’ main event at the Oceana nightclub, Webb (12st 8lbs) won the the first three round with good use of the jab and body shots whipped in with both hands. It was in round four that things started to divert from the expected script. In round four, McKenna (12st 4lbs) pushed Webb back using mainly straight shots and Webb did not seem to have an answer to it. After the round Webb’s corner read him the riot act. Webb responded by attacking from the start of the round but by the last minute of the round he looked exhausted. Webb forced round six but looked very tired at the end of the fight with his corner screaming encouragement to let his hands go through out. Referee Reece Carter scored the fight 58-57 for Webb. Undercard: James Lilley beat Mathew Ashmole 60-56 over 6×2 minute rounds. Darren Morgan beat Adel Badawy via first round knockout. Tom Jones beat Ibrar Riyaz 59-56 over 6×2 minute rounds.
