Welsh champ Craig Woodruff will fight Olympian Luke Campbell

Olympic gold medallist Luke Campbell (5-0, 4KO) will face Welsh champion Craig Woodruff (5-3, 2KO) when he returns to the ring on July 12th at Liverpool’s Echo Arena. The six round lightweight contest will take place on the undercard of Matchroom Sport’s ‘Collision Course’ show, which also features Cefn Fforest’s former world champion Nathan Cleverly. Newport’s Woodruff has suffered back-to-back defeats in his last two fights, a Unanimous Decision loss to Mitchell Buckland for the Celtic title and a fourth round stoppage loss to Martin J Ward. Although accepting the bout on late notice, the 21-year-old has been in training according to Sammy Sims who trains Woodruff at Alway Boxing Club. Campbell, from Hull in Yorkshire, hasn’t fought since February when he scored an eighth round stoppage of Scott Moises. The 26-year-old then took a break from boxing due to the illness of a family member. “It has been five months or more and I am looking forward to getting back in the ring,” said Campbell. “The break has given me a good opportunity to spend time with my family and I have always been in the gym ticking over and working on certain things. Now everything is steady and good everybody in the family wants to see me back in the ring and doing what I do best. “I have always been in the gym and I am in the gym every day, but the time out has given me the opportunity to be in the gym and spend some time with my family and not having to worry or think about anything else, and that is what I have been doing. “I have the full support of my family behind me and they want to see me in the ring, they want to see me doing what I do best and everything is good.
