Welsh Ex-Boxers Association open for expansion and looking for fresh members
The Welsh Ex-Boxers Association (WEBA) have set a date for their first meeting of the New Year and they want you to join them.
The group will meet at 7:00pm on Tuesday 7 February 2017 at the Taffs Well Ex-Servicemen’s Club, near Cardiff (CF15 7QD).
Cyril Thomas, Secretary of the WEBA, said: “With our numbers being depleted through general age related illnesses, it is now time for the next generation of this great Association to step in.
“Take us forward with their boxing experiences and tales of their times inside the ropes. Come on, lads. Don’t let this great Association disappear.”
Don’t be mistaken by the name, it’s not only for former fighters – it’s open to current boxers, whether they are in the amateur or professional codes.
There are between 11 and 16 members at each monthly meeting but with an average age of 70-years-old, WEBA are keen to attract younger members of the boxing community.
It’s also open to non-participants and the personalities who might not get in the ring but play instrumental parts of the fight game – such as trainers, cut men and officials.
Annual Membership for the Welsh Ex-Boxers Association costs £5 and will be collected at the meeting on 7 February.
