Nathan Cleverly’s (27-1, 13KO) cruiserweight quest will continue when he faces Argentina’s Alejandro Emillio Valori (15-4, 11KO) on July 12th in Liverpool. The Welshman will fight for the second time in three months, something he hasn’t done for four years and co-headline Matchroom Sport’s end of season show which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports. There had been talks for Valori to challenge Cleverly on his comeback bout in May but the fight fell through and Cleverly went on to stop Sean Corbin in two rounds at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena. It was Cleverly’s first fight since losing his WBO world light-heavyweight title to Sergey Kovalev in August. The summer night has been aptly named ‘Collision Course’ in reference to Cleverly’s fierce rival Tony Bellew (21-2-1, 13KO) who will also box on the show against Brazil’s Julio Cesar Dos Santos (26-2, 23KO). After a knockout defeat to WBC light-heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson in November, Bellew followed Cleverly to cruiserweight and won his first fight at the weight in March, a 12th round knockout win over Valery Brudov. Cleverly will return to the Echo Arena for the first time since defeating Bellew via Majority Decision and handing the Scouser his first professional defeat in 2011. Should both Cleverly and Bellew both win on July 12th, they are expected to meet in a rematch in October or November. Neither of the South American visitors have boxed outside of their home continents before. The independent rankings of online encyclopaedia BoxRec rates Valori 28th in the world and Dos Santos 52nd.
