Blackwood’s Dai Jones (4-3-1) takes on Jerome Samuels (4-5, 1KO) for the Welsh light-middleweight title tomorrow and received added inspiration eight weeks ago from the birth of his son. Jones’ Gwent derby rematch with Samuels headlines ‘Enter The Dragon’ at the Newport Centre on the first show promoted by former European and WBO world champion Steve Robinson. Speaking about his son, Jones said, “It would be fantastic to do it, winning the Welsh title, especially because my little boy was born eight weeks ago. It would be nice to win it for him, that’s what I want to do. “Last time I fought Jerome, my partner was pregnant and I was in hospital with her a couple of days before the fight. It was worse when she was pregnant than it is now though. It brings you so much joy having children, it’s the best feeling in the world and I’m doing it for my boy.” The pair first met in September and Samuels got the nod with just a single point separating the boxers in what was the first time each had fought in a six rounder. Jones, who is trained by Tony Borg at St Joseph’s Boxing Club in Newport, reflected by saying, “I know what I’m up against this time, so there’s definitely no excuses now. I know what I’m going to do to win, that’s all I can take from that fight. I know I’ve got to be better. “It was close but I’ll be honest, he edged it. I’m not arguing with the decision, it was a fair decision. He just trained harder but I’ve trained hard this time. “I’ve sparred ten rounds loads of times with different sparring partners; bigger ones, lighter ones. There’s a big variety in my gym, I’ve come up against whatever style he can bring. Nothing will phase me tomorrow night.” Tickets to ‘Enter The Dragon’ are priced at £60 for ringside seats with a VIP buffet and £30 for standard seating. You can buy tickets at or by calling 02920 492970.
