WALES WIN IN YORKSHIRE
There were plenty of reasons for Welsh pride to feel dented this weekend with England defeating Wales at Twickenham in the Six Nations rugby championship but a team of Welsh amateur boxers restored some sporting satisfaction. 11 Welsh amateur boxers competed against the best that the English county of Yorkshire had to offer and triumphed with a 5-4 win in the away fixture. The only senior in the squad was Pontypool’s Kieran Gething (69 KG) who lost his contest. The rest of the squad was made out of youth boxers and there were wins for John Coffey (52 KG), Shane Jones (52 KG), Jack Bradbury (60 KG), Kyran Jones (60 KG) and Jonathan Clatworthy (69 KG). Illness stopped Henry Price (57 KG) from competing and injury stopped James Price’s (60 KG) contest, while the defeated Welshmen included; Corey Bates (54KG), Kallum Skhane (56 KG) and Thomas Gilheaney (75 KG).
