On Saturday, Welsh super-middleweight champion Tobias Webb (14-1-1, 2KO) challenges WBC International champion Callum Smith (10-0, 8KO) in a ten round contest on Matchroom Sport’s ‘The Second Coming’ show at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena, live on Sky Sports. Smith is on a run of eight consecutive stoppage wins, six of which were in the first round, and the 24-year-old has built a reputation as one of the most talented prospects in world boxing with American media outlets ESPN and The Ring magazine shortlisting the Scouser. Meanwhile, Swansea’s Webb has been racking up the wins, albeit against less than stellar opposition. Webb last fought in February, recovering from a first round knockdown to beat the durable Nathan King with a competitive but clear points win. It was his first fight with his new trainer Karl Ince and manager Steve Wood. The Swansea man was then supposed to challenge British champion Paul Smith, older brother of Callum, but the fight wasn’t approved by the British Boxing Board of Control. Later, a meeting with Paul Smith was rearranged for a WBO International title but Smith encountered an elbow infection three days before the fight and it was scrapped.
